Doctors Speak Out Against Government Controlled Medicine
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 8:29PM Doctors speak up for their patients and warn against insurance company and government run medicine. Thank you to www.medlib.ch and Dr. Alphonse Crespo for producing the below video of testimonials given from physicians at the AAPS annual meeting earlier this month.

Well-edited to give a coherent picture of the problems and solutions for medical care in the USA today.
Health savings accounts with 1/3 cost, high deductible health insurance, and extension into Medicare and Medicaid (with vouchers for the needey, as provided in Dr Price's Republican HR3400) would be good additions for the next round.

It's true, as expressed in the video, that government needs to get out of the way of medicine with the exception of prosecuting fraud. It is government that subsidizes pharmaceutical companies and medical device companies; it is government that creates fixed prices on medical procedures; it is government that prevents insurance to be sold across state lines; government needs to get out of the way. Government needs to get back within the confines of the Constitution, rather than trying to save us with the tyranny of good intentions.
Lastly, if WE THE PEOPLE had the monetary policy of gold and silver as mandated in the Constitution, a natural deflationary monetary environment would allow real savings, eliminate inflation, and empower WE THE PEOPLE with the purchasing power of our currency rather than the government with its federal reserve notes backed by nothing. Thus elderly people, who no doubt need health care services more than other populations, would be able to afford these services simply by their savings alone, without depleting their purchasing power.
There need to be a separation of medicine and state.
Thanks so much to the Drs. for speaking out for their patients. I do not want Big Brother in the room with my Dr. when a decision must be reached in regard to my well being.
Hi thank you for your perspective. I hope that you are able to work with the "ignorant people" because there are an awful lot of them who would like to obtain medical services but can't because of their "ignorance". This may be true. however, there are an awful lot of them who could really benefit from being able to afford health care. I can't say that what the Democrats are doing right now is perfect, but I feel that there is a greater concern here for the many people who are simply much poorer than you could imagine being with great amounts of challenges many of which you may have never seen. Many insurance companies pay physicians a lot of money. In fact the partnership is very strong, even some medical schools are actually built by pharmaceutical companies which are indelibly link to the insurance companies. I commend you for stepping out of the insurance system, but in a lot of ways, I think you have little sight for who this program is designed for. I understand and sympathize that it doesn't work for you. Simply for the sake of streamlining the whole operation, I hope that you guys can come into compromise with public health insurance. For the record, I do not own insurance and do not want to be forced to purchase it. I buy my care from a physician who does not participate in any insurance or government program. I hope that this can remain an option. This seems extremely viable. Good luck. I feel that you all bring an importance piece to the table.
Good Day
It is important for doctors to stand up with the American people and defend our freedom to choose our own U.S. Consumer medical services and medical insurance and stop trampling on the freedom and rights of the American people. It is unconstitutional and illegal for the federal government and President Obama to take over the health care industry and the health care insurance which are two separate free enterprise industries. ObamaCare will fine Americans, excessively tax people and or jail Americans up to five years if they fail to buy government health care insurance. This borders on extortion as it places fear in the minds of the American people to force them to buy U.S. Consumer products and services they may not want to buy with their own money or use those services but will be punished if they refuse to pay up - It's a pay up or else system - and that violates the laws of the land and state laws. Many people go to jail for attempting to force people to buy up or else in all other situations and is considered criminal. The only entity making money would be the federal government through the excessive fines; taxes; keeping the prisons full with good Americans and break up their families and cause them to lose their jobs and homes. They will be paying doctors less and rationing medicine and services. Of course, it would be a neutral debt program when people die because they can't get medical care, Rxs, or services. Doctors will be punished if they don't do as they are told - and possible work where they are told.
I do not want bureaucrats telling my Doctor what treatment he has to give me, after all he is the one that who burned his lids studying to get his Dr. License and the knowledge to take care of his patients, according with his knowledge and experience. Only a Dr. can do the right decision for his people in his care not politicians or bureaucrats, whose interest his political career, not for the patients or Health Care.
Wake up America, Speak up defend your rights for a true Health Care bill, not a bureaucrat's bill!
When I first learned it was against the law for me to pay additional money to my physician over the pittance he received from Medicare for treating me, I thought "how did we let something like that happen." That law right there is unconstitutional. But it is done, and we live with it. The senator from my state, Harry Reid, cares not a whit what the people think. He is determined to ram this bill through. We have accepted our entitlements far too long, and this is the price the piper demands. The fight should be on.
we are headed for destruction of our system. The current proposals concentrate on huge taxes on every american.DOCTORS ARE CURRENTLY PAYING HUGE PREMIUMS AND WILL TAKE EARLY RETIERMENT.WE NEED TO ENCOURAGE MORE DOCTORS BUT REDUCING THERE SALARIES AND TAXING THE REST OF THE POPULATION WILL REDUCE OUR CHANCES OF RECOVERING IN THIS ECONOMY.WE SHOULD SPEND OUR WAKING HOURS OF RIDDING POLITICIANS SUCH AS REID, PELOSI ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS.BARACK OBAMA IS A RADICAL LEFTIST AND WILL PUT THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN OF DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY.HE IS ANTI BUSINESS AND WILL EVENTUALLY CRUSH THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNER
SADDLY ENOUGH THE POLITICIAINS WILL NOT EVEN PARTICIPATE IN THE SAME PLAN,
we should have tort reform and allow insurance companies to compete across state lines.
It is my opinium as a patient and citizen of this great country that it is time for the entire Medical Industry
to stand togeather and inform this goverment in the clearest terms that they will not tolerate or obey the current legislation as written. They should clearly state that they are willing to pay any price to uphold their standings and that they have the support of their patients to carry them through. They should also establish a new committment as a partner in forming real true health reform from the begining. This reform should focus on the people it serves and not the corrupt single interest.
Obama serving as President feels he has the SOLE right to implement reparation without any concern to those being harmed by his decision. The 111th congress is not being responsible for their actions; they are too full of "hate". This Health Care Reform is the first major move towards SOCIALISM. Apathetical attitudes towards government for many years by the People have allowed corrupt Politicians to form a symbiotic relationship. Our only option is to vote CAREER politicians out of office.
I agree with the opinions expressed. I feel that we are in this position due to an ultra liberal monoply that has a strangle hold on the communications industry. If you do a bit of research you will discover that the three major networks also control the newspapers, magazines, entertainment shows, radio, everything. Two major corporations control all of this. They control most internet sites as well. This is how they are ramming this through congress. We will be paying an incredibly high price for the folly of ousting the Republican party from both the presidency and the congress. There is no balance of power in our government. i wonder how people who contract serious diseases will feel when they discover that government counsellors will advise them of their option to end their lives by consenting to being starved and or dehydrated to death. Do they know that their doctor will be penalized for treating them twice in the same year if their cancer recurs? Who will support the elderly if we use government money to abort babies with money stolen from medicare (another abomination). The unborn can't vote, but the retired can and do.
This is an absolutely excellent site that should be made very public / have you thought of just a quick commercial to advertise the web address. People need to see and hear these things but unfortunately most will never find the true websites. Anyway thanks for your time.
As stated above, this was a "well edited and produced" video. Where, however, were the people who cannot afford any health care. I did not hear one comment about the people who work hard every day just to survive. How about them? Oh that's right, the doctors above probablly don't have to deal with them because they cannot afford health insurance, which means they cannot afford to see the above doctors. It is nice to sit at our computers debating health care concerns because we have that luxury. What about the millions of people who do not have this option, nor do they get input into the process. Let's all be honest with ourselves, please. This whole debate is about money and who gets the most of it. Doctors don't want to give up their large incomes; Insurance CEO's don't want to give up their bonuses and Hospitals have to show a good bottom line to their investors. This issue has been turned into a government vs. non-government issue and that keeps us from looking at the REAL problem which is greed. With all the money involved, and everyone trying to get as much of it as they possbly can, health care is merely the generator of the cash. It is heart warming to see the nice doctors who care so much about their patients but let's stop the BS. The health of this nation is at stake and unless we look at what is really going on, versus the Right wing and Left wing extreme propaganda, we will all suffer. No that is not true, only the people who cannot afford to pay will suffer. I am tired of the self righteousness of this whole issue. This is not about some "thing" this is about human beings and about the quality of our society. Just think about it. If we could stop the the politics and make health care affordable for EVERY person in America, the amount of money coming into the pot would overflow and all the ravenous appetites for that money would be satiated. Do I have all the answers? Of course not. But until we start dealing with the truth of the matter, it will only get worse.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank YOU for speaking the truth !
Brett you are right on! How many people submitting replies to this page do not have health care coverage? Not one I'll bet!
A tale of two cities.
A good friend of mine's Grand father was a house painter in California and also had a commercial fishing operation in Alaska during the summer months. My friend would go with his Grandfather as a boy and then as young man and crew on the boat. The Grandfather said he would leave the whole operation to his grandson, which was no small amount of money. When the Grandfather turned 62 he developed cancer and the fight for life began and in the end he lost that battle. That's a sad reality of life, but what's equally sad is the fact the "fishing operation" was liquidated to pay for the medical treatment and finally the family home leaving the grieving widow homeless and destitute.
Case # 2
My father was a bush pilot his whole life and my mother a school teacher. At the end of my father's career he didn't have two cents to rub together, but with my mother's pension they live comfortably in their modest home, have two vehicles and are as happy as humanly possible. Several years ago my father developed cancer and was treated with the best of care and oddly enough neither he nor my mother nor anybody else had to lose anything to ensure he would receive the treatment. He didn't stand in any lines, get any second rate treatment or travel to another country. The reason this was and is possible is every citizen of the country he lives in helped him to survive and prosper.
The other day on a flight to Tokyo I over heard a man professing his religious and political position to his neighbor. He was on his way to Manila with his church to help the less fortunate. In the next breath he said that people in the US who don't contribute to the system should not recieve one lick of help and that was why he was a Southern Republican. I thought to myself, does he even know what God is? He would travel half way round the world to help less fortunate souls, but would shun and ignore in sight of the very church he belongs to!
I can't for the life of me understand why we Americans in general, living in the certainly the most prosperous nation in the world, allow such a huge proportion of the citizenry to go with out basic medical and health care. In every other developed nation in the world it's basic service.
Our financial institutional melt down was a product of unbridled greed and and say what you want, you know in your heart this is the same issue.
My father suffered a death panel in the year 2008. He had taken care of himself after a debilitating stroke in 1996 until March of 2008. I have complete history of a death panel that he suffered from March, 2008 until December, 2008 when Medicare said he could not live any longer. I truly believe my father was murdered by medicare. This is why they are cutting money and benefits to medicare in this new health care bill. They are planning to withhold treatment to your elderly love one (which is exactly what they did to my dad). I spent months and months in 2008 trying to save my father from ultimate death planned by Medicare. Also, I want the whole world to know that AARP was my father's medicare insurance. They abandoned my father over an insurance dispute. Otherwise my father may be alive today. Does it now make sense why AARP is supporting Obamacare? This health care bill must be stopped. The doctors know what is going on and they must begin to talk about this plot designated in this health care bill. The emotional torment of knowing that your loved one was murdered by his country after he fought for it in World War II is almost more than I can bear. I know that there are others out there that have suffered death panels by medicare either in 2008 or 2009 and have not spoken up because the pain is so great. Please, please post your pain here. Think about all the others who will suffer the same fate if you don't speak up.
Let me get this straight; we have irresponsible government officials that have inflated spending, insurance companies that are trying to maximizing profit or just survive, doctors whose livelihood depend on driving patients to their office and billing those insurance companies and paying patients, many people running to the doctor as if they are running to the local Walmart and I am to believe that these people with the cool sound bytes have the answer to these problems. As far as I see, everyone is taking. Who is giving? Believe me, I want to alleviate suffering but reality is reality; Who is going to pay for this and how are we going to be able to afford this. Somebody has to give up something. Perhaps you!
My brother took my father to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. While waiting to see the doctor he saw
sheiks from the middle east laying out thousands of dollars for medical services. They came here to
America for medical treatments because America has the greatest healthcare plan in the world. As
with anything even the Obamahealth care plan there will always be things that need to be fixed.
So it blows my mind to hear how we need to eliminate the healthcare plan we have now, which is
envied by every country in the world and is the place to come for medical treatments by people in
foreign countries, and create a new Obamahealth care plan which is the same health care plan you
will find in every country that envies us. Why not fix the plan we now have and make it more
afordable by allowing insurance companies to cross state lines. Does anyone remember Germany?
How long before we begin to eliminate the elderly and the lame?
How long before we become just like them? This is nothing less than a complete takeover of the
American way of life. I think it would be fitting to have a horse drawn carriage slowly pass the
congressional building with a coffin containing the Constitution of the United States as the vote is
taken on Sunday since they are killing every thing it stands for.
I had a heart attack at the age of 40. While in the emergency room I was told I needed and angioplasty. Being totally unfamiliar with the nomenclature I told the emergency doctors that I refused to consent to the procedure until I spoke with my own physician. I was told he was not on call and hence I would not be able to consult with him. I insisted and eventually my doctor was contacted. I asked him if I could die from the procedure and he told me that was a remote possibility and that I would more likely die if I refused the suggested treatment. Of course I then consented. After ten years of living with periodic angioplasties, at the age of 50 I had bypass surgery performed by the head of cardiovascular surgery at Cedar Sinai. It's been 16 years since the surgery, the grafts are clear, and my health is excellent all things considered.
The point I'm leading up to is the importance patients place on the doctor/patient relationship. My primary physician became a concierge practice, and while I don't like the extra cost I pay it because of the importance I place on continuing that relationship. The same thing holds true with the relationship I have with my cardiologist who informed me recently that if Obama care passes he will either go the concierge route, work for Cedars, or retire from practice.
I don't feel the vast majority of doctors are overpaid. They have the brains, the talent, and the dedication that justifies their earnings. I am however concerned about what I am going to do if doctors refuse to take medicare. I have private insurance until age 67 which gives me 4 more years to hope that a satisfactory solution will occur; however, this isn't going to happen with the present Congress and president.
Where was AAPS when the AMA supported Obama care? What is AAPS doing to help elect Republican representatives and senators?
The point I'm leading up to is the importance patients place on the doctor/patient relationship.
To be honestly, reading your articles is really great fun. It makes learn a lot. I genuinely hope there are a lot more posts like ttrue religion outlethis one your blog; we need to post the artists out there.
