I agree with Dr. Watson for the most part and that most Drs. do fight for their patients against the insurance agencies to get the benefits needed. However, what about the unsured? My 5 yr. old granddaughter for instance lives with us (and so does her daddy.) Daddy has Bi-Polar and makes too much for Jaden to have Medicaid but he doesn't make enough to support her with rent, transportation, and family insurance. He (and my husband and I) have her full time. He won't give us guardianship to put her under our insurance, so the poor thing has NO insurnace. She should have the right to have access to some sort of govt. insurance that is not just for the poor. Her dad shouldn't have to go on SSI to get her the insurance. AND, he refuses to apply for disibility anyway. Any solutions here?
As a member of the medical comunity for 40 yrs. there is no doubt that medicine and its practitioners have become a corporate business model and no longer a healing art. The art part might come in at the end of the business- and if the appointment lasts longer than 5 mins. , but it is less and less likely as time goes on. There are reasons for it- mostly the materialistic approach that dominates all of our institutions. Dr.s are bought just like everyone else. They are no more noble than your local car dealer. I see this everyday of my life. There are some rare gems, of course, like there are in every area of life. However, we cannot count on the judgement and wisdom of physicians for adequate health care policies. We can count on their self interest- because they are no different from anyone else. Thanks. Sh W
Health Care "Reform" isn't REFORM
In order to understand and improve any problem, one should identify the causes of that problem. The President and Congress won't allow this, because they know that the causes of our present very expensive health system are the Congress, federal policies, and trial lawyers.
Instead, they seek to attack victims of their policies; physicians, patients, hospitals, and insurance companies.
The AMA is a sad disgrace and should be abandoned by every physician who has a conscience. Even though "retired" from private practice for several years, I am re-joining the AAPS.
We must try to save our Country for our children and grandchildren.
I am having a hard time finding information at Fox or anywhere else about the rally from 5:30 to 6:30. Someone emailed me www.takebackmedicine.com but I think this deserves more coverage. I wrote to Fox a few days ago about it but that doesn't seem to have done any good. I wish you much success. By the way, I asked my cardiologist if I should go ahead and have a heart operation while Medicare will still pay for it. I won't go into medical details but I am responding to medication. He considered my question thoughtfully and said I don't really need the operation right now and I might not ever need it but he understood my concern. He advised against the operation. Even if I need one later and am not allowed to have it, I respect his decision and know he made it with my best interest at heart. That is the way medicine should be! This is beyond science fiction in terms of the fear factor of this administration! Again I wish you success.l
