Health Reform bill proposes improvements to Medicare. Medicare is a government run insurance. It pays for dialysis for even very old patients and has done it for years. (Although old dialysis patients are rare) It sounds like you advocate abolishing government run health care system that works very well with the elderly. By the way my 88 year old father who just recently had hip replacement surgery with a doctor of his choice under medicare bristle at thought of having medicare abolished under your plan.

From the AARP website:

Myth: Health care reform means rationed care.
Fact: None of the health reform proposals being considered would stand between individuals and their doctors or prevent any American from choosing the best possible care.
Fact: Health care reform will NOT give the government the power to make life or death decisions for anyone regardless of their age. Those decisions will be made by an individual, their doctor and their family.
Fact: Health care reform will help ensure doctors are paid fairly so they will continue to treat Medicare patients.
Bottom Line: Health reform isn't about rationing; it's about giving people the peace of mind of knowing that they will be able to keep their doctors and that they will always have a choice of affordable health plans.

Myth: Health care reform means the government can make life-and-death decisions for you.
Fact: Health care reform will NOT give the government the power to make life-and-death decisions for anyone regardless of their age. Those decisions will be made by individuals, their doctor and their family.
Fact: No one, including the government or your insurance company, will be given power to make life-and-death decisions for you.
Bottom Line: Health care reform isn't about putting the government in charge of difficult end of life decisions. It's about giving individuals and families the option to talk with their doctors in advance about difficult choices every family faces when loved ones near the end of their lives.

My husband and I have two healthy boys. We have also experienced 5 miscarriages in a row. This loss has been difficult for us and has caused us to fall behind in many of our financial plans. We took out our retirement accounts to cover the costs. We are both musician/teachers who are self-employed. We pay for everything ourselves and get taxed at a higher rate because of our self-employment. Recently we went through the government run state program Medical Assistance to try and help ends meet. I cannot believe how much time we wasted and how much paper and the associated postage costs they incurred with our situation that they wasted. We received duplicate and triplicate forms and responses on many occasions. It was terribly confusing. In the end they were able to help us with one month of expenses which totalled just under a thousand dollars. Yes, we were grateful; however, if that is what we have to look forward to under a government takeover of our healthcare then I am not interested in putting ourselves nor others into that situation. The redtape will be unbelievable. Don't let them talk you into believing that all you need is your government card. If you forget it or lose it and you are on your way to the hospital you will not receive care until you show your card. This actually happened to a 21 year old man in Canada whose appendix had ruptured. He is dead now. I am for reform. Yes, insurance company CEOs are taking a too-large cut. However, Obama's plan is illogical- it cannot work as predicted. Please watch what he actually is doing and not what he is saying. His charmful rhetoric is quite deceiving.

Read the House Bill - it is everything those concerned fear that it is - or is not.
Read what is available of the Senate Bill - it, too, is just as over-reaching. And 200 pages of amendments still remain hidden under wraps by Senator Dodd - even from his colleagues.
Obama's health advisor, Ezekiel Emanuel, has been pushing for government controlled medicine for over a decade. His criticism of the Hippocratic Oath and of physicians who diligently pursue the best care for every patient, his promotion of allocation of care for ages 15-45 and limiting treatment for the older and younger populace, his push to constrict the development of new treaments and technologies are documented in his articles in JAMA, The Lancet and op-eds in the Washington Post. The Wall Street Journal [8-27-09] has an excellent overview of his positions.
No government program is "free". This one is outrageously costly [$10 trillion!?!] - placing burdens on business [8%], fines on non-compliants and taxes on those who do not have approved insurance. We will pay for it with higher taxes and higher costs for everything we buy.
It will be augmented with rules and regulations and requirements determined and enforced by administrative personel. Read the Bill to learn just who they will be!
