DOCTORS TO REID:  bill subsidizes very corporations criticized by all sides; Ask Reid to withdraw bill & start over

For immediate release:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Withdraw the healthcare bill and start over.

That’s the message in a letter sent today to Sen. Harry Reid from a national physician association representing doctors in all specialties.

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) asked Senate Majority Harry Reid to give America a real Christmas gift: withdraw the divisive healthcare reform bill.

The majority of Americans don’t want the bill—which is primarily a compulsory insurance bill – including the majority of physicians.  More than 40 medical organizations are on the record against the bill, representing more than 500,000 doctors – far surpassing the AMA membership.

There’s something in the 2,000 pages for everyone to hate,” said Jane M. Orient, M.D., AAPS Executive Director, co-signatory of the letter.  “It’s bad medicine, and bad public policy.”

The letter states:  “The heart of this proposal is compulsory insurance: it forces Americans to buy a product they would otherwise reject, thereby subsidizing the very corporations that are being justly criticized from both the left and the right. This should be unacceptable to all, including both single-payer and free-market advocates…..

…..The current proposal is like giving a patient an injection of 2,000 ingredients—some untested either alone or in combination, some known to have serious adverse effects, and some to be concocted later by an administrative agency. It is bad medicine, and bad public policy.”

Dr. Orient emphasized that the Senate is about to vote away its own authority, delegating it to politically unaccountable bureaucrats. “A vote for this could be the last meaningful vote on health policy that any senator will have the opportunity to cast,” she speculated.“The right thing to do is to start over with thoughtful, one-at-a-time, transparent proposals, with hearings and plenty of constituent input. That is the way a representative, deliberative body is supposed to work—not by backroom deals and arm-twisting to come up with a minimum number of votes.,” warned Dr. Orient.

TEXT OF LETTER BELOW

December 18, 2009

Honorable Harry Reid

Majority Leader

United States Senate

Dear Senator Reid:

The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, which speaks for thousands of physicians in all specialties nationwide, and millions of their patients, urges you to withdraw the current Senate “health-care reform” proposal—simply because it is the only right thing to do.

The heart of this proposal is compulsory insurance: it forces Americans to buy a product they would otherwise reject, thereby subsidizing the very corporations that are being justly criticized from both the left and the right. This should be unacceptable to all, including both single-payer and free-market advocates.

The bill increases costs and decreases choices—the opposite of the stated goals—and is thus a fraud perpetrated on the American people.

There is no way that 2,000 pages replete with bureaucratic requirements and restrictions—and political payoffs—can be fixed. The Senate needs to start over with thoughtful, one-at-a-time, transparent measures. The current proposal is like giving a patient an injection of 2,000 ingredients—some untested either alone or in combination, some known to have serious adverse effects, and some to be concocted later by an administrative agency. It is bad medicine, and bad public policy.

The majority of Americans are opposed to this proposal. The more they learn about it, the more they oppose it. The content of the bill is largely not known even by Senators who are being pressured to vote for it. But in a sense, the details don’t even matter.

We are confounded by your willingness to neuter the U.S. Senate with this bill, abdicating your power and turning so much control over to the Secretary of HHS and other unelected officials.

Some senators fear losing their job if they vote “yes,” some if they vote “no.” Should that be the sole basis for voting? Don’t put them in that dilemma. Think of the future of the U.S. Senate itself as a deliberative, representative body, with meaningful authority.

Give your constituents and your country a real Christmas gift. Preserve our American heritage. Withdraw this bill.

George Watson, D.O., President, and Jane Orient, M.D., Executive Director, AAPS

This has gone beyond any imagination. That Harry Reid is so wrapped around Obama that he will require all senators and staff to give up spending Christmas Eve with family and loved ones. He is so afraid that he will not get his bill passed that he's going to these lenghts. All senators need to stand up to Harry Reid and say NO. We will work on this after the holidays. There can only be one answer to this. They are desperate to pass this. It's not about health care, that starts four years after passage, it's about TAXES that kick in the first of the year. Come on Washington. STOP this insanity. Go Home.

"WE THE PEOPLE " EX[ECT GOOD FAITH AND INTEGRITY FROM OUR ELECTED LEADERS!
I AM SURE YOU ARE WELL SCHOOLED IN WORLD HISTORY.

IF ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT IS YOUR GOAL WITH THIS BILL,
.YOU HAVE NOT CONSIDERED THAT WE ARE NOT DEMOCRATS NOR REPUBLICANS.

WE THE PEOPLE ARE COMING YOUR WAY. ITS TIME TO DELETE THIS BILL AND START OVER.
IF THIS IS INDEED ONLY HEALTH CARE THAT WE ARE WORKING FOR THEN LETS HAVE SOME TRANSPARENCY AS OBAMA PROMISED.
HIS CURRENT RATINGS INDICATE THAT WE THE PEOPLE ARE ANGRY!

NOW!?? Sen Bennett points out that these 2,000 pages (with 3,000 "shall"s) start benefits in 4 years - but taxes for them now. That is fraud.

The main reason for obstructing Senator's Christian celebration is to start this czarcare snowball down the hill, before Americans can forsee who it will smother.

Withdraw the health system bill aka The Frankenstein Monster Bill and start over.

It is bad public policy, and bad medicine.

I am outraged that Harry Reid is forcing a vote on the democrats secret bill when the Republican senators have not seen or even read just what they have added to it in the final days behind closed doors! What about we the people?, What about the constitution?
I am outraged that senators are being bribed to vote for this bill at the expense of the citizens! The Supreme Court needs to step in! And NOW!

December 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAlice Johnson

This bill is a monster that will eat everything in its path. It doesn't resolve the needs of what most people want. We have health care provided for free or at a reduced cost at state run clinics and hospitals. Again, the vocal minority are speaking so loudly the silent majority isn't being listened to. I hope the silent majority starts making some noise. Any Senator that passes this bill hasn't read it. They have it so burdened with change after change with deal after deal none of them will take responsibility for its smothering effect on our country.

Who does this help if it passes today, this week, or this year? NO ONE! It just will make Obama feel good. And if that what this President needs to make his year, then he is even less of a person then I was willing to give him credit for and that ain't much.

December 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMarcine Johnson

Mr Reed
Please do as the majority wonts. Don't push this bill through. It will ruin America.
Remember, you can be voted out and will if this bill is passed.

December 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJim/Valerie Looney

Mr. Reid, you show me in the Constitution where it says the US govt. is supposed to provide health care for all. I'm absolutely appalled at your refusal to listen to the American people. How dare you try to ruin the Christmas holiday by your hatred for this country. If this is what we can expect from you, then you're not fit to serve. The best thing you can do for this country is kill the bill and resign immediately.

December 18, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGeri

The American People are being tuned out by Washington DC. Why is the Senate not listening? It is like the American People have no voice and I beg you, please, please don't be the one to make the wrong choice. Please stand strong and not let the Liberal Democratic Party put this amazing country under Government Control. It has only been 200 years since we fought to have the freedoms we now have and having this Health Care Bill pass will make the United States of American just like any other country. People come here for the freedoms they don't get in their own countries, if the Government takes control, those people should just might as well stay in their own countries. Take the time to make the members of the Democratic party see that this is not what the people want. We want the freedoms that our forefathers fought so hard for. Thank you for your time. I hope you get the chance to read this.

I emailed both my senators this morning and told them to go home for the holidays. However, one of my senators is Patty Murray and she seems to be the female version Charlie McCarthy sitting upon Reid's knee. She is about to be voted out of office in 2010, and it isn't a minute too soon. I only wish it could be sooner. This health care bill is out of control, and I am so happy that the Tea Party Patrtiots are pushing the envelop. We need to take back our government from these socialist frauds. They all campaigned on transparency and working for the people, and we have seen none of that. I am tired of being ignored. Patty Murray's final salutation on each of her letters is always, "I hope all is well in Kent." Well Ms. Murray - all is not well all over the country, because you won't stand up and do the will of the people.

Senators....Listen and Listen well. By passing this "illegal" legislation you are carving in stone a legacy that will hang around your neck until the day you die. You are galvanizing a movement that will dedicate its every waking thought to your destruction. That destructiion is only a few months away....Do you want to go down in history as a participant in this madness.
MAN UP!!! Do the right thing and vote against this insanity. Oh, also remember that you will be subjecting your own children, and grandchildren to this monster....You are stealing their future along with every future Americans....Vote No

See how easy it was for the American people to be fooled by nothing more than hype? That is exactly what was done to the American people who voted for this president, Barak Hussein Obama in office! Now we ALL have to suffer the consequences of his presidency.

SURREAL, isn’t it? How did we get to this point?

It’s the American dictatorship! The Congress against the people!

Bereft of morals and shame, the Senate is openly ANTI-Constitutional, even by considering such a bill. Not to speak about violating common sense, expert advice, and public opinion.

If the senators had any respect for the Constitution and any sense left, they would impeach Sen. Reid and issue warnings against all the senators who have supported this “health care reform” farce.

Reject the bill, Senators! Go home for Christmas! And send Harry Reid home for good!

Harry Reid and Senators...those of you who are pushing this abomination of healthcare reform legislation forward...STOP THE WRECKLESSNESS, STOP THE PUSHING OF THIS TRASHY BILL FORWARD...WHAT IS YOUR POINT?? Your behavior...the arm twisting, the special "deals", the secrecy, the pressure, the compulsion and obsession of pushing toward an unfounded goal of passing this wreckless legislation by Christmas is an insult to our Constitution and to us, the citizens. Why, by Christmas?? Why not January, February, or whatever it takes to get it right! We are sick and tired of this kind of behavior in our government. STOP! This bill has been horrible to begin with and never fulfilled proper resolution of the real problems with current healthcare. And, to understand that there's still another unreleased version (of the bill) being worked in the background?? It's beyond the pale that a legislative body such as the U.S. Senate could carry on doing the nation's business this way. People will undoubtedly be hurt by it. It's my perception that the forcefulness being used here represents a drive to ultimately attain larger government and a single payer healthcare system...at whatever the cost...another step toward socialism.

I thought this nation was a nation by the people and for the people. And this Big government we have is for the people . One Nation Under GOD . Not under BIG government. What has happened people. Now if BIG Government wants it we must take what ever THEY WANT TO GIVE THE PEOPLE. Is this a government from another part of the the world that just takes over and hands out what they think we need. Our fore fathers are really rolling over in their graves for the way we have laid still and let these thing happen. Morals and standards are a thing of the passed WE THE PEOPLE really need to let our LEADERS know and first of all we all need to get back to a simple thing as voting and voicing our right as the Christian Nation that we are. And put those in our government that will stand for the people OUR GREAT NATION. MAY GOD FORGIVE US WHERE WE HAVE LEFT HIM OUT. GOD BLESS OUR LEADERS TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

December 19, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermike martin

What is the rush with this bill? You are showing the American people how greedy you are for power. You want the American people to pledge allegiance to you not to our great country. And now you pick our special holiday honoring God you demean it.

December 19, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhyllis

I am so disappointed in our elected representatives, who vote on bills, they have not read, and likely do
not understand. They are out of touch with the people they represent, and have not looked at the
consequences of these flawed health care bills, to the people, who have to live with their mistakes in
voting, for years to come. Is this really democracy, or have we taken a side path, that will lead to the
destruction of our way of life? Our government should not be controlling US. WE should be controlling
our government. Since our government is becoming more and more out of control, it is frightening for
intelligent people to look down the road, and fear for the security of our country. Will we ever be able
to unravel the harm done by the passage of this health care bill, if our legislators don't wake up, and
start doing the right thing for our country? Will we survive the damage from this erroneous health
care bill, if our elected representatives force it to be passed, against the wishes of the majority of
Americans?

The Real problem in healthcare

Much ado about "health care Reform" but little discussion about the real problems therein.

Partisan broughahah is a smokescreen for more sinister objectives. Another "illusion of choice" to pull attention away from objectives of plunder and servitude. How can this be happening? It is not an accident.

Back when Our republic was founded, there was no healthcare industry. Physicians were self-employed in a guild model and learned the craft largely by apprenticeship. Science was not so profound as today and people might survive in spite of the treatments given. Some physicians were caring human beings and some were monsters ( much like today). There were a few medicines, but those were mostly misunderstood and misapplied ( very much like today).

There were no antibiotics , antiseptics or anesthetics except for liquor. Sanitation was not practiced except through religious tenants and germ theory awaited the persecution of Semmelwisc . Surgery was "barbarous" gambling without the benefit of stethoscope or xray/imaging. Often it was fatal in and of itself. A c-section would usually be fatal to the mother and baby. Life expectancy was very short, persons older than 40 were uncommon. They did have plaster casts but no sterile bandages existed. Hospitals were usually places where people came to die, in convenient proximity to the anatomy "theaters" for public dissection. Even the purpose and circulation of the blood was mysterious. There was no "health care Insurance" but there were limited widows and orphans funds, usually through craft guilds in a cooperative model. Social safety nets were entirely family and personal charity since there were no government programs.

There is no mention of healthcare in the constitution except obliquely as Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. How did we get to the mess we are in today?

One of the big germinal events for our current crisis appeared along with the concept of manifest destiny. Development of the transcontinental railroad was achieved by masterful manipulation of the law and national finances by the railroad robber-barons gang for massive individual gain. The 1862 railroad act created a huge slush fund which has spawned many criminal corporations and trusts , many of which still exist today. Part of this fund was to be set aside for widows, orphans and retirees of the railroads but it was soon corrupted and subverted by the money pirates. Eventually, the railroad fund became inexplicably commingled with Medicare/social security monies much to the delight of Palmetto and other "insurance " companies who vigorously exploit it, essentially unsupervised.

They have been cooking the books since 1862 and are quite expert at diversion by many different strategies. I dare You to Try and figure out CMS /Medicare "rules" which are venal, arbitrary, and diabolical mechanisms to cheat patients and physicians out of proper payment. Did you know that these big ten fiscal intermediaries ( fi's ) get a 30% bounty on the elderly, sick and disabled for everything that is denied? Seems very very evil to me. The fact that Our own government is in cahoots with these criminal corporations to steal prepaid benefits from the sick, reeks. When Mr Emmanuel brazenly says on camera that it is the responsibility of the old to DIE, something is very rotten in DC. Ask Mr Nader about it sometime, He knows what I am talking about here. Remember that only 3% of all money spent on healthcare goes to Physicians, the majority of the money goes to "health care insurance" companies, followed by Pharmaceutical industry, followed by hospitals and equipment companies and next ( but paid more than Physicians), the legal system.

As the historical lineages of the current plutocracy have developed, the consistent feature of politicians has been rapacious greed and plunder. As the tools of monied interest, congress is still performing these mercenary attacks on the very citizens who mistakenly believe that voting matters. This self-annointed royalty is so deluded that they have separate rules for themselves vs the sheeple, who they actually disdain. Why else would they collectively assemble a 2000+ page attack on USA citizens with the only clear language embodied is to say it does not apply to congress?

The illness affecting healthcare in this country is systemic greed and corruption and cannot be fixed except by systematic excision of malignant components followed by a thorough worming to get rid of the parasites. If we wish to survive as a country, there needs to be a proper long-term plan to abandon global manifest destiny, fix our own problems, educate our children properly, respect our constitutional freedoms and protect our way of life before it is totally destroyed.

Respectfully
SamWiseMD

If these senators were going to be subject to this wonderful "healthcare," they would have scuttled it long ago.

They will still be receiving the best health insurance anyone could ask for. Some of them are getting pretty old, do you think they would settle for the "end-of-life counseling"?
