AND WE'LL TAKE YOUR CALLS LIVE!
June 25, 2009 is the 44th anniversary of Medicare.
For most physicians in the U.S., this was the beginning of the loss of control over their practices.
For patients, this was the beginning of physicians answering to a government agency, rather than to them. Quality, access and privacy have suffered.
For taxpayers, it was the beginning of a mandatory tax for a program whose costs have run more than 10 times what we were told, and which is now facing bankruptcy.
To mark this anniversary, the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) is holding a “virtual” National Physician Town Meeting: “Take back medicine for patients.”
On this day, AAPS will hold numerous events for physicians to be heard – to tell their first-person stories about how government takeover of medicine has violated the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship, made it much more difficult for ALL patients to get treatment, and created an atmosphere of fear and frustration that has driven good doctors out of medicine.
Since doctors are too busy taking care of patients to hold a big Washington DC rally, there will be various avenues for them to make their voices heard:
- “Virtual” Town Meeting featuring more than 30 doctors, including Members of Congress;
- Radio talk show hosts across the country will devote a portion of their shows for doctors to call in with their stories;
- National telephone hotline to record their stories & comments;
- Website to log on and sign call statement of independent principles for the practice of medicine;
- Respond to survey about impact of government on practice of medicine;
- Doctors will post video statements on a YouTube channel.
On that same day, Health Care for America Now, backed by money from the AFL-CIO, will also hold a rally at the Capitol in Washington DC. Hundreds of union coordinators are organizing busloads of their members to show up calling for the further government takeover of medicine.
IT IS CRUCIAL THAT DOCTORS – BY THE THOUSANDS - ARE HEARD ON THAT DAY.
